Over the two days, you will learn a range of skills. Such as how to use ice axes and crampons, selecting equipment, navigating in winter and self-arrest.

Please note that winter conditions can be harsh. As a result, it isn’t possible to predict snow and ice. As a result, we deliver this programme in a flexible way. So that full use can be made of the current weather conditions. Additionally, be aware that the course will still run even if it is snowing.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for someone that has previous experience of hill walking. But wants to take this experience a step further through winter walking. Although experience in winter hillwalking isn’t necessary, it is beneficial to have some experience in summer hillwalking. Moreover, a reasonable level of fitness is essential.

What will I be doing as part of this course?

During this course, we will cover two areas. Navigation and security on winter terrain. Each day, we will be outside on the hills. And during the journey, we will look at the following:

  • Winter navigation skills
  • Terrain and route choice
  • Use of ice axe and crampons
  • Winter equipment selection

As it can be difficult to predict weather conditions day-to-day, we will need to work in a range of different conditions. As such, the course will be running in a fully flexible manner.

The two day course costs £170 per person and the five day course costs £390 per person.
