Introduction

This course is aimed at those who have some experience in hillwalking. But would like to explore steeper, more adventurous routes. If so, this week long course could be ideal for you.

Each night will be spent at Plas y Brenin. And during the day you’ll have chance to undertake a range of scrambles. As well as developing skills in:

  • Route finding
  • Simple ropework
  • Navigation
  • Equipment selection
  • How to interpret mountain weather

We will cover a large area. And this will help you to get to know the area. Providing the possibility of exploring Snowdonia further in the future.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideally suited to mountain walkers who want to experience scrambling. And explore some of the less accessible places in Britain. To be successful in this course, it is necessary to have a good level of fitness. This will enable you to take part in some general mountain walking. You will have the opportunity to take in the classic Snowdonia summit.

What will I be doing as part of this course?

This is a practical course, which is hill based and requires some evening sessions. Grade one and two scrambles will be completed throughout the week. And the following skills will be further developed:

  • Clothing and equipment
  • Basic scrambling techniques and movement skills
  • Choosing a safe route and assessing risk
  • Hazard management
  • Assisting and safeguarding other party members
  • Simple ropework for scrambles in ascent and descent
  • Weather forecasting
  • Planning a mountain day
  • Guidebooks, maps and grading systems
