In order to be successful for this scramble, it is necessary to have completed some of the classic grade 1 routes. This course is good for those that want to tackle something more challenging. Specifically, by learning the ropework techniques required to progress to grade 3 routes.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for individuals that have completed grade one routes. But want to move onto more challenging terrain. This is achieved by learning the ropework techniques to move onto grade 2 or 3. To be successful in this course, it is necessary to have a strong level of general mountain fitness. So that Snowdonia summit can be tackled successfully.

What will I be doing as part of this course?

The course is practical and hill based. It involves some evening sessions in a classroom. When out exploring, we aim to develop the following areas:

  • Clothing and equipment
  • Basic scrambling techniques and movement skills
  • Choosing a safe route and assessing risk
  • Hazard management
  • Assisting and safeguarding other party members
  • Simple ropework for scrambles for ascent and descent
  • Use of karabiner and slings
  • Weather forecasting
  • Planning a mountain day
  • Guidebooks, maps and grading systems
