What does gorge walking involve?

Gorge walking includes a variety of activities, including:

  • Scrambling up and down a gorge
  • Jumping in pools
  • Sliding down slides
  • Traversing rock pools
  • Climbing waterfalls

It is ideal for families, groups and couples. It can be adjusted to suit a range of ability levels.

Why should I choose North East Outdoor Activities to do Gorge Walking?

We have been guiding groups throughout the Lake District for over 20 years. During this time, we have gathered significant knowledge of all venues. We also know about changes in water levels and knowledge of safety. We are AALA licensed. Because of this, we can instruct groups of children or young people under 18 without parents being present.

We will tailor the experience for your group and current water conditions. However, we want your experience to be fun!

What venues are available for gorge walking?

All of our gorge walking venues can be easily accessed from Ambleside,Windermere and Keswick. The type of venue you choose depends on the type of experience you require.

Locations that we use include:

  • Stickle Ghyll & Dungeon Ghyll in Langdale: Good for beginners, families and young children
  • Church Beck in Coniston: Easy and gentle to navigate. However, equally suited to adventurous groups due to the large jumps in the upper section
  • Stoney Croft Ghyll at Keswick: Provides a fun filled experience for groups
  • River Esk Ghyll: A challenging experience which includes a range of jumps and waterfalls
Is gorge walking an activity that I am suited to?

You do not have to have completed anything prior to doing gorge walking. However, be prepared to be challenged. But most importantly, have fun!
